HOSIER LANE - OUTDOOR GALLERY

I have blogged before about Hosier Lane, one of the central Melbourne alleyways that form such an integral part of what makes Melbourne the cosmopolitan urban centre that it is. The Melbourne City Council is rather relaxed about graffiti in this laneway and as a consequence, this alley is highly decorated with all sorts of art, graffiti and tagging, which keeps changing as it is overpainted frequently. I recently walked through it and took some photos.

This post is part of the Monday Murals meme.

  11. I find it fascinating that some cities are more relaxed about graffiti than others. I think some graffiti exudes charm and should be allowed to stay.

  12. Thanks for featuring the horse this week. Quite an amazing composition. The artist really ought to make a litho of this piece. Does that ever happen? Thanks, Nick, for participating in this week's Monday Mural.

  14. That's really something! I guess there's some sort of code between te artists on how long they wait before painting another work over?
I think it's also good of the city to have a couple of spots where grafiti is allowed.

Thank you so much for having identified the Mandrake on the mural. I knew something really weird might take place there! :-)
