SOUTH WHARF, MELBOURNE

South Wharf is a small inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. Its Local Government Area is the City of Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip. Its borders are the Yarra River to the north, Wurundjeri Way to the west, the West Gate Freeway and a small private car park bordering Ford Street and Munro Street which is part of the City of Port Phillip to the south, and the railway line and Clarendon Street to the east.

South Wharf is located on the southern bank of the Yarra River, bounded by Clarendon Street, Normanby Road, the West Gate Freeway and Docklands Highway. Gazetted in 2008, formerly part of the industrial and shipping area of Southbank, the renaming is part of a wider urban renewal strategy to link Southbank with Melbourne Docklands. South Wharf includes some of Melbourne's landmarks including the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre and the Melbourne Maritime Museum with its heritage Polly Woodside. South Wharf is home to Shopping outlet Direct Factory Outlets and the Hilton Melbourne - "South Wharf".

  1. Simply beautiful night shots! Interesting structure for the highway to pass through - looks nice, but wonder what's the purpose? Again, great information!

    1. Thanks, Linda. The structure is purely decorative. More public art for Melburnians!

  11. I like these 'airborne' shots, Nick. They all have real good subjects for 'things in a row.' I'm doing this too but don't have nice airport pictures like you do.

  14. What awesome captures. I think the thing which stand out the most for me the blue lighted oval through which the train runs. That is spectacular. And once again, the bridge is one of my favorites. Its simplicity makes it even more attractive and at night is it out of this world. genie
