CLOCK TOWER, UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

The Faculty of Arts is the oldest faculty at the University of Melbourne. It began teaching the Bachelor of Arts in 1855 when students were first welcomed into the University. The clocktower of the Old Arts building is a distinctive and iconic structure on campus.

In 2008, during the Australian tertiary sector's end of year offer period, the Bachelor of Arts attracted more first preferences from students than any other degree in the country. The Faculty will be launching a graduate school and new programs in 2009. The Faculty has six schools: Asia Institute; School of Culture & Communication; School of Historical Studies; School of Languages and Linguistics; School of Philosophy, Anthropology and Social Inquiry; and School of Social and Political Sciences.
