The five murals (at Maling Lane next to the Village on the railway wall) depict the significant stages in the history of the Maling Road Precinct - from 1885 (when the railway first was developed) to the present day. The murals themselves depict the overall historic story which includes a nursery rhyme hunt for children in an edgy, popular.folk art style, which engages children and adults alike.

ReplyDeleteI read the plaque and it seems that the fate of movie theatres in your country and my country have a very similar history from their hay days to their downfall. The mural artist has left us a glimpse of the theater's hay days.

ReplyDeleteI left Melbourne last July so it was lovely to nip back through your post. I've often wandered up and down Maling Road stopping for coffee or lunch obviously. It's complusary isn't it?
The mural is fantastic. I wonder who the lady in the blue coat was and why is she waving so enthusiastically? Do you think she's meeting a long lost friend or did someone pinch her handbag? ;D
