In 1994 Apple Computers released the QuickTake 100, a colour digital camera made by Kodak. With a steep selling price of $795 this camera was able to capture a 640x480 pixel colour image and came with a fixed focus 50mm lens. It used three AAA batteries for power and weighed only ≈450 g. It stored up to 32 images at 320 x 240 pixels or 8 pictures at 640 x 480 resolution and connected to a computer via a serial port. I was one of the early adherents of digital photography and here below is the camera and my first photos taken with it, captured at Wilson's Promontory, a national park close to Melbourne. These are the 640x480 resolution images, straight out of the camera, unprocessed in any way... The photos by today's standards are terrible, however, I saw the potential and persevered with digital photography.

Wow! Technology has come such a long way in such a short time. It si difficult to find someone who uses a camera with film nowadays.
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting post with photographic evidence as well. I have never heard of the Quick Take 100. Apple has been such a pioneer of our digital world. Thanks for sharing Nick.
