They are widely regarded as the finest botanical gardens in Australia, and among the best in the world. However, the gardens are also noted for their historical contribution to the introduction of invasive species. The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne are adjacent to a larger group of parklands directly south-east of the city, between St. Kilda Road and the Yarra River known as the Domain Parklands, which includes; Kings Domain Alexandra Gardens Queen Victoria Gardens.

I love flowers but it was that red umbrella that got me here. Nice touch.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gardens and stunning pictures. My great grandfather was responsible for drawing up the plans for the original design of the Melbourne Botanic gardens. We have a copy of ther plans, but a lot has changed since then.

These are wonderful pictures. I couldn't tell but it seemed as though the succulents were growing outside ... is that the case? I didn't realize that it stayed warm enough year round in Australia for them to survive. My favorite picture is the old tree trunks with their wondering roots ... very haunting. Great pictures, Nick.

ReplyDeleteWhen I worked in the top end of town, I often had lunch in summer in the gardens. Not as beautiful as the Botanic Gardens, but like the people in your photos, very peaceful.
