SOUTHERN CROSS AT HOME TIME

Southern Cross Station is the most important rail terminal in Victoria and has been redeveloped into a world-class public transport interchange, with fast rail connections to regional Victorian centres and new facilities for rail, taxi and bus passengers. Now more than just a railway station, Southern Cross Station is a combination railway, shopping centre and bus terminal. The shopping centre includes a Coles supermarket, DFO - Direct Factory Outlet and over 100 other shops, bars and restaurants. On Spencer Street between Collins and La Trobe Streets at the western boundary of the central business district, it is the hub of the state's regional railway network, serving as a terminus for long-distance V/Line trains.

  1. We finally have light rail in one of our cities and hoping to get it in more. I really enjoy using the train...what a great way to bring people in - make it a shopping center! Nice photos showing it off!

  3. this is also where us country folk connect with our V-line trains, or the bus to the airport
it's much nicer to use now that there's a shopping centre attached

  5. What an incredible modern transit hub indeed!! Wow! Amazing! You guys really do know how to do it! I do wish we had something here in Seattle even half this good!! Our transit system in more like something from the 60s or 70s at best!! Terrific captures for the day, Nick!

  6. Being a small-town girl essentially these transit hubs just amaze me. (I was so in awe in London when we visited that I was always in danger of being left gawking!)....Your station here looks so shiny and modern compared to the ones we saw there though -- I'm even more in awe (and even more wishing there was decent public transportation anywhere where we live or stay.)
