AN UNLIKELY GALLERY

Driving along Trenerry Crescent in Abbotsford, right by the tall fence that hides the Eastern Freeway from view, one sees a remarkable open air gallery which has been growing steadily over the last few months, and displaying an increasing number of works fixed on the wooden wall. Another suburban surprise of "arty" Melbourne!

The paintings are a curious mixture of political comment, idyllic landscape, pop art, literal representation and abstraction. I am not aware of the artist(s) responsible and I can;t seem to find much on the internet. It is best to park in the Dights Falls car park across the road and then walk a hundred metres or so West on the footpath (traffic can be heavy!) in order to admire the art works.

This post is part of the Monday Murals meme.

  1. That is great. And none of them look defaced!

  2. Allowing people to post their art work on public walls is a great idea. I like to think most graffiti artists respect other artists' work to deface them.

  3. Such a great use of an otherwise wasted space.

  4. Incredible variety in this outdoor gallery. Someone's gone to a lot of trouble to organize this. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
