How common a sight in our skies was this a couple of years ago. COVID has now ensured that air traffic is a minuscule fraction of what it was then. Now, a day trip out of metropolitan Melbourne by car sounds like an exciting adventure. We still are confined at home, only venturing out within a radius of 5 km, and only for essential business (and not during the curfew, i.e. between 9:00 pm to 5:00 am)...

TRAVELLING AGAIN

The airlines in Australia have just started offering special fares between capital cities. This is to take advantage of the exceedingly small number of cases of COVID infection and the increasing numbers of immune people as more and more get vaccinated. All of the sudden, travel has become viable again. I saw a flight from Melbourne to Sydney advertised today for a fare of $39.00! 

The mosaic is a horizontal layering of images in Photoshop, with three different photos making the three horizontal stripes of the image. Details (e.g. the gull) have been added on top of the image on a different layer.

FLYING INTO MELBOURNE

How common it was until last year to be able to hop on a plane and travel away from Melbourne and then come back afterwards. COVID changed our lives to an inordinate degree and to travel freely for work or pleasure has become something that is a big no.

CITY FROM AFAR

One of the pleasures of flying in to Melbourne is when the time and flying approach path are such that one catches glimpses of the City from the plane window. The vast area Melbourne occupies (9,992.5 km2!) becomes apparent and also the high density of the CBD with its skyscrapers.
