MOSAIC REPUBLIC, MELBOURNE

On Queen St, near the corner with Little Collins St is an interesting establishment called Mosaic Republic. This is a studio/gallery that specialises in creating mosaic artworks in the classical as well as modern style. The work they produce is all hand-made and created by master craftspeople (mosaicisti, as they called in Italian). Under the guidance of award-winning mosaic artisan, Fabian Scaunich, clients have access to exceptional Italian and locally-made mosaics for any environment. Fabian obtained a Maestro qualification from the world-renowned Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, Italy.

In the foyer of this building are two, large, stunning mosaic murals as a sample of the work this studio produces. I love mosaic as an art form and the colours and textures of a mosaic on a wall can be one of the most spectacular and eye-catching decorative coverings that you can possibly devise. Enjoy!

This post is part of the Monday Murals meme.

  2. Nice work. I sometimes make photo mosaics from my own (and others), photos. I guess I am a bit more digital than these guys!

  3. These are stunning!
And I love that you got some great close-ups so we can see it is not all flat (as I originally thought)

  4. Beautiful! I, too, love the close-ups. I'm amazed in the second photo that it looks like the grout is all different colors.

  5. Whoa. Your detail shots really pulled me up short. You have no idea how complicated the process is until you see it on the super macro level. Suddenly I have a whole new appreciation of the mosaic process. Plus you taught me a new Italian word! My cup runneth over. Thanks, Nick, for contributing to Monday Mural.
