RAINBOW LORIKEET
This little beauty came down on a shrub in the garden and seemed a little stunned. It was quite tame and not scared at all, posed quite prettily to have his photo taken. Initially I thought he was injured, but no, he just wanted to say hello and then flew away.

AT THE STATION
Commuting is extra painful in Winter... However, the trains are heated in Melbourne!

SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE "COLD MOON"
June is the first month of our Southern Hemisphere Winter here in Melbourne. On June 12th we saw the full moon, called the "Cold Moon". Although we had a fairly cloudy sky last night, the moon did peek through several times allowing photos such as this below to be taken. I used my iPhone for a quick take. The temperature in our garden early this morning was 2˚C.

WINTER AND RAIN
It's Winter in Melbourne and we've had some rain. Hopefully we'll get quite a bit more as several areas of Victoria are affected by drought.

FUNGI
Fungi are relatively well-evolved living things that are neither plants nor animals, and they include a diverse group of organisms, such as yeasts, moulds, and mushrooms. They are heterotrophic, meaning they obtain nutrients by absorbing them from their environment. Fungi play a crucial role in ecosystems by decomposing organic matter and forming symbiotic relationships with plants and animals.
It's mushroom time in Melbourne, and although many people collect wild mushrooms to eat, as they are delicious, it is important to distinguish them from toxic toadstools and poisonous mushrooms, because ingesting those may cause serious illness or death...

We are experiencing unseasonal weather and rather disrupted seasonal changes. Flowers are blooming at the wrong time and leaves are reluctant to turn to their autumn colours and fall. It's going to be an interesting year in Melbourne this year...

CITY LIGHTS GLARE
A view towards the Melbourne CBD from about 6 km northeast. It's Autumn here and we've had some rain. The sky is still overcast.

THE NUMBERS HAVE IT
With a Federal Election looming ahead, and an amusing talk show on the radio I hear about numerology, I took the opportunity of sharing this collage of numbers I found and photographed while walking around my neighbourhood.

RAIN
As Autumn progresses in Melbourne, the days get shorter (of course!), the nights are noticeably cooler and the days more often than not are mellow and warm. However, increasingly we may see rain showers, or occasionally heavy rain that can lead to flash-flooding. Well, it's Melbourne, and if you don't like the weather, wait an hour and it will change!
The gardens of course gratefully receive the rain and this year everything seems to be growing/blooming prematurely. For example, I saw the first Spring bulbs sprouting today! A few months before their time...
