WEST GATE BRIDGE
The West Gate Bridge is a steel box girder cable-stayed bridge that spans the Yarra River, just north of its mouth into Port Phillip, and is a vital link between the inner city and Melbourne's western suburbs with the industrial suburbs in the west and with the city of Geelong, 80 kilometres to the south-west. The main river span is 336 metres in length, and the height above the water is 58 metres. The total length of the bridge is 2,582.6 metres. It is the third longest in Australia behind the Houghton Highway and the Hornibrook Bridge, and is twice as long as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bridge passes over Westgate Park, a large environmental and recreational reserve created during the bridge's construction. This view is from Newport, looking towards the northeast, with the City skyline in the background.

BY THE YARRA
In between the rainy days, there are fine, sunny Spring days. Lose no opportunity to go out and enjoy the sun by the Yarra River in the City.

DOCKLANDS EVENING
Melbourne Docklands is a waterfront development in the heart of Melbourne, located on the spectacular Victoria Harbour with three kilometres of Yarra River frontage. With extensive waterfront promenades, urban art, interesting architecture, historic and contemporary buildings, state-of-the-art marinas, stylish waterfront restaurants, cosy bars and active waterways, Docklands has plenty to offer.
The views on the water include, as well as the numerous leisure craft, the Bolte Bridge, which is a large twin cantilever bridge. It spans the Yarra River and Victoria Harbour in the Docklands precinct to the west of the Melbourne CBD. It forms part of the CityLink system of toll roads that connects the Tullamarine Freeway from the northern suburbs with the West Gate Freeway and the Domain and Burnley tunnels to the Monash Freeway and the south eastern suburbs.

SOUTH WHARF
South Wharf is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 2 km south-west of Melbourne's Central Business District. Its local government areas are the Cities of Melbourne and Port Phillip. Gazetted in 2008 and formerly part of the industrial and shipping area of Southbank, the renaming is part of a wider urban renewal strategy to link Southbank with the Melbourne Docklands.
South Wharf includes some of Melbourne's landmarks, including the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre and the Melbourne Maritime Museum, with its heritage Polly Woodside. South Wharf is also home to many apartments, shopping outlet Direct Factory Outlets and the 5-star luxury hotel Hilton Melbourne - South Wharf. A five-storey Victorian warehouse, known as the Tea House (at 28 Clarendon Street), built in 1888, is one of the few buildings which survived the redevelopment of the area.
In the photos below, the curved Webb Pedestrian Bridge can be seen, as well as the Two tall pylons of the Bolte Bridge.

YARRA, AS THE CROW FLIES
Hunting in my archives I found some photos from last year, which were taken from the Rialto Building in the City. There are some quite nice views of the Yarra River and its bridges looking towards the East, South and Southwest.

CITY VISTAS
The last few days in Melbourne have been very hot and it was good to find some shade beside the river in order to sit down, rest and sip cool drinks. Thankfully, the cool change came through on Sunday afternoon and at least we'll sleep comfortably tonight.
