FEDERATION SQUARE, CITY

Federation Square is a unique cultural precinct in the heart of Melbourne. It's a great place to hang out and watch all the action, take a tour, catch a cruise, wine and dine, or just use the free Wi-Fi. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Victoria. There's always something going on there, with an impressive calendar of events and activities throughout the year.

Fed Square is home to the Melbourne Visitor Centre, Australian Centre for the Moving Image and National Gallery of Victoria's Ian Potter Centre. It has distinctive architecture comprised of geometrical patterns and shards, with zinc, sandstone and glass tiles. Crowds gather to watch major events live on the giant screen, such as the AFL Grand Final (football), the FIFA World Cup (soccer);or the Australian Open (tennis).  A little less crowded on an overcast, cool and gray Autumn day like this one!

  4. What unique architecture. We have a few similar buildings here that are causing problems with structural integrity and leaking. What seemed pretty cool buildings a few years ago are now causing headaches for the owners. Sad.

  21. In these photos so much looks like patchwork to me, like a quilt - I guess because there are so many shapes created by straight lines.
