FLINDERS ST STATION AT DAWN

Flinders Street Railway Station at the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets in the City is the oldest station in Australia (1910) although the first station on this site opened in 1854. Flinders street is the busiest suburban railway station in the southern hemisphere even after the completion of the city loop railway subway and its 700 metre main platform is the longest in the country.

Flinders Street Station is 'the' meeting place for Melburnians, expressed simply as "meet me under the clocks", a reference to the clocks above the main entrance. Flinders Street Station has become a famous Melbourne landmark, emerging as a symbol of Victoria's capital city and is an institution in the daily routine of nearly a quarter of a million people.

Here it is shown at dawn on a rainy day when the first light spreads through the low diffuse clouds, giving the sky a beautiful colour and texture.

This post is part of the Skywatch Friday meme.

  1. I like the color of the blue when it is around sundown or that is already passed. Also the artificial light deepens the atmosphere. Well done.
