RIALTO TOWERS MURAL
The Rialto Towers (often 'The Rialto') is a skyscraper located at 525 Collins Street, in the western side of the central business district of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is the second-tallest reinforced concrete building and the tallest office building in the Southern Hemisphere, when measured to its roof (several other skyscrapers in Australia are taller if their spires are included, as are some other structures in Australia such as communications masts and observation towers). The Rialto Towers featured Melbourne's first skyscraper public observation deck which operated between 1994 and 31 December 2009.
At the back of the building, facing onto Flinders Lane is a mural that decorates a rectangular space above an escalator well. It depicts construction workers, a tribute to those who built the skyscraper.
This post is part of the Monday Murals meme,
A very good use of that space; must have been hard to photograph!
ReplyDeleteOh Nick,
ReplyDeleteWhat stunning blue buildings.
Thanks for joining in to celebrate Blue Monday’s 5th Blogiversary!
Great angle shots and love the murals and blue color for HBM ~ carol, xo
ReplyDeleteThat's a sneaky one.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, I wish I could see it in person. Your pics are so good.

Those are tall. I like the mural.
ReplyDeleteI love the perspective in the mural and the delicate shading used. It's nice to see labor honored. A lot of art in the 30s and 40s did so, but not so much now. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteHi Nick
ReplyDeleteYou are doing Melbourne proud. I have not been to the Rialto Tower for a while, I'm going to check out these murals next time I'm in town.

Good to see the workers honored this way
