FRUIT CORNUCOPIA

We are lucky in Melbourne to have an abundance of fresh produce available year-round. The range of climates across the continent means that fresh fruit is available country-wide through the efforts of our commercial carriers. Large greengroceries and fruiterers shops exist in all shopping centres and healthy competition means the prices stay relatively low.

Here are some Sugarloaf Pineapples (Ananas comosus), breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis), mandarins (Citrus reticulata), and in the first photo you may even see some bananas (Musa × paradisiaca).

and also part of the Food Friday meme,
and also part of the Orange you Glad It's Friday meme.

    1. Hello Hels. Yes, breadfruit was introduced into Far North Queensland by Samoan missionaries from the Pacific Islands, where it forms part of the staple diet. As you are well aware, breadfruit is famous for its role in the mutiny of the “Bounty” where Captain Bligh was commissioned to transport the fruit from Tahiti to the West Indies.

  2. You are so lucky!!! The breadfruit looks very interesting. I would love to taste it. It looks a little like jack fruit in Southeast Asia.

    1. It's available in the large markets like Victoria Market in the City, but also some large greengrocer shops in the suburbs.
