Heide Museum of Modern Art is a modern and contemporary art museum located in Bulleen, east of Melbourne, Australia. Established in 1981, the museum comprises several detached buildings and surrounding gardens of historical importance that are used as gallery spaces to exhibit works in various mediums by contemporary Australian artists.
The fifteen acres of landscape at Heide have been developed over several decades in tandem with its art and architecture. When John and Sunday Reed purchased Heide in 1934, it was a neglected former dairy farm. They immediately set about establishing a Provençal-inspired kitchen garden adjacent to the original farmhouse and initiated a major planting program. Today, the cultivated landscape includes a sculpture park with over thirty sculptures, several of the original gardens which are now heritage listed, an Indigenous Remnant Conservation Zone and a diverse range of exotic trees, unusual roses, herbs, flowers and vegetables.

So glad these are your fall colors ... beautiful as they are, I am happy to finally be in Spring here. Great shots though ... there is nothing more beautiful than fall.

I keep coming back to Heide in my lectures and blog. Not only did John and Sunday Reed buy the farm in 1934 for themselves, they very generously opened the house up to every successful and impoverished artist in Victoria. The old house is gone now but the museum and gardens are still a favourite spot.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect spot to witness Autumn in all its glory Nick.
ReplyDeleteWhat generous folks...Loved leaning about the Heide. http://lauriekazmierczak.com/sky-eye/
ReplyDeleteI love the shape and color of the tree. Love how it tuches the ground. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Nick, how good is our Melbourne Autumn this year? Your photos of Heide capture it well, I love wandering there amongst the sculptures.
