I go by this mural every day as I commute to and from the city by train. It is directly opposite the Dennis Train Station close to where I live. I decided to drive by and take some photos of it last week. It is gracing the side wall of an old fashioned "shop-and-dwelling" of a kind that were very popular in the suburbs of the past. The corner shop has long closed its trading doors and has been converted to a home. The graffiti and tagging on the façade show what easy prey such "abandoned"-like buildings can suffer. Surprisingly the mural hasn't been defaced...
The only reference to the artists I could find were the rather cryptic words "CLAP-JILL-MAWN-BOMA" on the top right hand corner. This could refer to a collaborative work effort with approbation thereby attached to the component members?
This post is part of the Monday Murals meme.
That is an awesome mural and such beautiful faces!! I hope you find out who the artist/artists are! Your captures are fantastic, Nick! Have a great start to your week!

Thank you:)
DeleteWow, what impressive eyes! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to have a sort of multi cultural theme going on Nick, the artwork is great, It always fascinates me where artists chose to create!
ReplyDeleteHello Nick

The artist (artists) did a great job with the facial expressions.
ReplyDeleteHi there - having a station named "Dennis" always makes me laugh - I think it should have a twin station called "Doris"!
ReplyDeleteThe mural is a nice addition to the streetscape.

PS: thanks for your thoughts
What beautiful work! The eyes are absolutely captivating! So glad it has not been defaced!
ReplyDeleteI love the variety of murals, taggings, and advertising on this wall!
ReplyDeleteWonderful wall paintings. Great capture !
ReplyDeleteKind regards, Synnöve
The babies are cute! A wonderful, colorful mural. :)
ReplyDeleteThis certainly is a very eye catching mural especially at its corner location.
ReplyDeleteThe artist/artists have shown us the real expressions of the what they have painted.
Aren't these Angelina and her kids? It's a very vibrant mural.
ReplyDeleteNo.
DeleteFantastic! I guess Francisca is right. I also have a big face on my blog today. :-)
ReplyDeleteThese faces are so well rendered and nuanced, it's hard to believe they were done with spray cans. I'm not clear on the theme, but the artistry speaks for itself. Thanks, Nick, for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots!! I love the details, they are magnificent. In the 3rd one, the woman reminds me Natalie Portman.
ReplyDeleteSomeone can draw, that's for sure! Maybe it's just so good that even graffiti artists feel they must leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteThe baby face in the middle is wonderful Nick. Good post!
ReplyDeleteImpressive pieces of art indeed. Please have a good Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteSomeone does gorgeous portraiture work. Love the building, somehow the mural and graffiti seem to enhance it's loneliness rather than detract.
ReplyDeleteThe eyes are especially powerfully done.
ReplyDeleteThis is another face of Melbourne I get to see.Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis artist is indeed very talented.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteThat is quite an interesting mural. And so beautiful. My husband and I were always attracted to murals wherever we traveled.

ReplyDeleteThank you. Not a collaboration, just done by me, Clap, in 2009, so a little while ago now. The mural you see in the photos has faded so much compared to what it was. I should be painting over this mural soon.
ReplyDeleteYou can see this work in it's full colour, and also any of my most recent work over at www.facebook.com/clapmeataxedesign :) :)
Thank you for everyones kind words :) :)
